ABOUT ME

Last winter I made my London debut with the Royal Shakespeare Company as a Roman pleb. Before you scoff, I’ll have you know that the people of Rome play an essential role in Shakespeare’s Roman Plays. We plebs even made it into the programme credits.

Strutting around the Barbican Theatre in my hessian potato sack and Jesus sandals, I felt on top of the world. I’d made it. I’d made it to London, I’d made it onto the Barbican stage, and I’d made it into the Royal Shakespeare Company.

I may not have had lines - though we did shout and mutter amongst ourselves - and I may have been dressed in an oversized potato sack for all of London’s theatrical elite to see, but this was undoubtedly one of the proudest moments of my life.

Maybe one day the RSC will kick themselves for not casting me as Calpurnia. Maybe one day they’ll give me lines. Only time will tell...

Until then, I’d like to share with you my journey of how I came to be a Roman Pleb and how Shakespeare has enriched my life.

Happy reading,

Aimee
